cinve is a private academic organization established in 1975 as an independent non-governmental organization, not related to any corporate, religious or political associations.
cinve carries out and promote research on domestic, regional and world economic issues; disseminates work results; organizes workshops, meetings and seminars. The institution also offers qualification courses, as well as specialization programs, and supports education and training of young researchers through their participation in the center activities and through encouragement and support of graduate studies in well-known universities.
The center holds close links with national and foreign academic institutions. It is part of several academic networks: the Red Mercosur de Investigaciones Económicas; the REDINT Network (Red INTAL de Centros de Investigación en Integración); the Latin America Research Network of the IDB, and the Poverty and Economic Policy Research Network (PEP Net).
Cinve has been working for ministries and other public agencies from several countries, and for national business chambers and non-profit organizations. In addition, it has received financial support from various foreign agencies and institutions, such as the International Development Research Centre (IDRC-Canada), the Swedish Agency for Research Cooperation with Developing Countries (SAREC), the Ford Foundation, the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID), the Inter American Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, the Tinker Foundation, the Department for International Development (DFID), and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
International organisms, such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Asociación Latinoamericana de Integración (ALADI), the Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union (EU), have also funded cinve´s academic activities.
